Manage gateways

Pincer Settings ▸ Gateways is the one place to edit how this device connects to a gateway. It lists every gateway saved on this device, the built-in demo included.

This page is about the connection (URL, token, access) and is saved on this device. To change the gateway itself, use Gateway Settings.

  • macOS: choose Pincer → Settings… (⌘ ,), then the Gateways tab.
  • iOS: tap the gear in the sidebar, then Gateways.
  • From the gateway menu: choose Manage Gateways… in the menu at the top of the sidebar, or in the Gateway menu in the macOS menu bar. It opens Gateways at the current gateway.
  • From Gateway Settings: on the Connection page, choose Edit Connection…. Gateway Settings closes and Gateways opens with that gateway selected.
  • From a failed connection: when the chat area shows that Pincer couldn’t connect, Edit Connection… opens Gateways at that gateway.

Gateways is the second page, after General. See Appearance.

The Gateways list shows each saved gateway with its name and status: Connected, Connecting…, Waiting for approval or an error. The demo shows Demo. Choose a row to select it (a checkmark marks it).

Below the list, Add Gateway… opens the usual Add Gateway flow. On iOS it closes Settings first. When the demo is your only gateway, the button reads Connect Your Gateway….

If you switch rows while the connection has unapplied edits, Pincer asks Discard unsaved changes?.

Select a gateway. Its section is titled with the gateway’s name and shows:

  • Status, with the approval instructions when the gateway is waiting for you to approve this device (openclaw devices approve <requestId>, with Copy Command).
  • Reconnect.

Below that are the connection fields:

Field What it is
Name How the gateway is named in Pincer.
Gateway URL The gateway’s address.
Authentication The Method and its token or password.
Access Standard (Chat & Approvals) or Full Management. See Access levels.
Security The TLS certificate SHA-256 pin. Update it if the certificate was renewed, or clear it.

Revert discards your edits. Apply (⌘ S on Mac) saves the connection on this device and reconnects. If the gateway’s own settings in Gateway Settings have unsaved changes, Pincer asks Reconnect and discard unsaved settings? first.

Switching to Full Management asks the gateway for more access, so the gateway host has to approve this device again.

Choose Remove from Pincer… and confirm Remove name? The saved token and device pairing token are deleted from this device. Nothing changes on the gateway; revoke the device in Devices if you also want it removed there.

Select the demo to see a Demo section saying it’s simulated. Connect Your Gateway… opens the Add Gateway flow. Remove Demo deletes the demo’s sample chats from this device and keeps your other gateways.

The first time a real gateway connects while the demo is still added, Pincer asks Remove the Demo? Choose Remove Demo to delete it and its sample chats, or Keep Demo. Pincer asks only once on a device, whichever you choose, and never while the Add Gateway wizard or a setup wizard is still showing. If you add the demo when you already have a real gateway, Pincer doesn’t ask. You can try the demo again any time from Add Gateway….

The This device section shows this device’s Device ID and Role. See Security & privacy.
